Payroll & HR Coordinator

    Job Summary:

    Point Loma Nazarene University is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented candidate to support and grow within the Office of Human Resources. You will be a great teammate who is willing to take direction but also shows initiative and can work independently. The role will contribute to the department by supporting Payroll and Human Resources related functions.

    Pay range: $21.76-$23.50 per hour   

    What We're Looking For:

    • You are able to provide excellent customer service communicating clearly, respectfully, positively, and supportively.

    • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Excel, Workday experience is a plus

    • You have an eye for detail and are familiar with balancing/reconciliations 

    • Self-motivated and able to work with regular check-ins and supervision from department leaders or teammates to communicate back progress and updates.

    • Enthusiastic, passionate, and strong work ethic!

    • You have an interest in Payroll or Human Resources and are looking for opportunities to grow your career in these areas.

    What You'll Be Doing: 

    • Serves as the first point of contact for all payroll related inquiries via phone, email, or in person, and is the primary backup to university switchboard/reception.

    • Provides training and on-going support to bi-weekly employees and supervisors on time entry system procedures, policies and dates.

    • Provides support in the overall payroll processing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls. Serves as a backup for processing when other payroll staff are out of the office.

    • Provides payroll reports and data to HR, Accounting and other internal and external constituents as requested

    • Participate in fiscal and calendar year end processing of payroll and coordinating with outside vendors for W2 distribution

    • Processes employment verifications

    • Assists with other human resources functions as needed. This could include, but is not limited to, benefits billing and reconciliation, recruitment, compliance, etc.

    Qualifications: 
    • Bachelor’s degree or one year of administrative office experience required

      • One year of related HR/Payroll experience preferred 

    • Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with campus community. 

    • Excellent customer service skills.

    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

    • Knowledge and experience working with a diverse population is preferred

    • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

    •  Job offer is contingent on a clear background check.

    Physical Requirements:

    • The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. 

    • Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. 

    • Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. 

    • Ability to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. 

    • Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day, and up to 25 pounds as needed.
