    San Diego Convention Center is seeking a Director of People & Culture to lead the People & Culture team.  A leader in our industry, our 2.6-million-square-foot facility is located along the waterfront in downtown San Diego, steps from the bustling Gaslamp District.

    Position Description Overview

    Reporting to the CEO, the leader of People & Culture is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining programs to attract, develop and retain the best talent for the San Diego Convention Center.  This individual provides visionary leadership and strategic direction in the areas of Organizational Development, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Management, People Operations, Employment Law Compliance, Corporate Governance, and Employee and Labor Relations.  This individual develops an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports the constructive resolution of conflicts.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • ·         Collaborates with leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through people strategies and initiatives.
    • ·         Ensures the company culture is articulated, cultivated and reinforced at all levels of the organization.
    • ·         Leads exceptional talent acquisition/assessment, talent management, and performance management programs, monitoring key performance indicators. 
    • ·         Manages the organization’s Total Rewards philosophy, ensuring programs are competitive and aligned with short-term and long-term business objectives.
    • ·         Directs a process of organizational development that addresses workforce planning and succession planning opportunities throughout the company.  Identifies areas of development for staff and implements tools and training to grow their skills.
    • ·         Formulates and implements programs and objectives focused on establishing a high-performance culture that emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, quality, productivity, professional development, and the recruitment and retention of a highly qualified workforce.
    • ·         Maintains knowledge and leads company in compliance of all federal, state, and local labor and employment law requirements, and updates company policies and procedures to remain in compliance.  Coordinates with legal counsel and/or internal leadership as appropriate.
    • ·         Oversees the Corporation's labor relations and union relationships, including negotiations and interpreting and administering the collective bargaining agreements with various unions.
    • ·         Develops and maintains an HRIS that meets top management information needs. 

    Position Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • ·         Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Industrial Relations, or related field is required; MBA or Masters degree in a related field is a plus. 
    • ·         SHRM-SCP, SPHR and/or PHRca certifications preferred.
    • ·         15 years related experience, with at least seven (7) years of management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • ·         An exceptionally high degree of business acumen, with ability to participate as one of the critical leaders in the stewardship of the business and help guide it through growth and change.
    • ·         Ability to blend the strategic and aspirational requirements of the role with the hands-on practicality to build a strong People and Culture function.
    • ·         A track record of driving results by leveraging superior influence management skills and change management methodologies.
