    JOB SUMMARY

    Become a part of a dynamic Human Resources team and have a positive impact at Point Loma Nazarene University. We are looking for a Benefits professional responsible to serve as the expert and point of contact for inquiries and requests related to benefits.

    BENEFITS
    Benefits include health, dental, tuition benefits for employee and dependents, competitive retirement matching, vacation and sick time, and 15 paid holidays per year.     RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manages the administration of the university’s robust offering of benefits programs.
    • Serves as first point of contact to current and prospective employees on benefit eligibility and all plan coverage related inquires.
    • Manages workers’ compensation process including processing and managing of claims, liaison with health service providers and carrier, and communication of established procedures.
    • Performs ergonomic reviews, in conjunction with PLNU’s workers’ compensation carrier, and ordering of appropriate equipment according to PLNU ADA policy.
    • Assists with the campus safety program and plans agenda items for university safety committee.
    • Services as liaison with university insurance brokers and plan vendors to resolve all customer service and plan related issues.
    • Manage all communication and processing of employee leaves of absence, coordinating with state disability programs as needed.
    • Provides benefit orientation to all new employees as part of the onboarding program.
    • Assists and contributes towards the completion of the retirement plan annual annual audit, and other compliance related forms.
    • Assists with aspects of the open enrollment process including employee communications, annual benefits fair, and the enrollment process.
    • Verifies benefit eligibility and all enrollment information, processes monthly insurance invoices and reconciles carrier monthly statements to ensure billing accuracy.
    • Manages the COBRA process and all benefit exit and conversion related questions.
    • Responsible for Emergency Response training and drills in assigned building.
    • Completes other assignments and projects as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 1-2 years of experience in benefits administration preferred. Related experience in a university setting preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field, preferred.
    • General knowledge of federal and state benefit regulations including HIPAA, FMLA, and workers’ compensation.
    • Developed knowledge of California benefit and leave regulations preferred.
    • Commitment to deliver excellent customer service and foster positive employee relations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare/convey clear and effective written reports, correspondence, and presentations.
    • Developed computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and web-based applications.
    • Ability to navigate an HRIS system, familiarity with Workday preferred.
    • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects.
    • Ability to work effectively with a team of HR and Payroll professionals.
    • Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
