    Associate Director of Human Resources & Compliance 

    The San Diego Museum of Art has an exciting full-time opportunity for an Associate Director of Human Resources & Compliance to be part of our team.  In the heart of Balboa Park, The San Diego Museum of Art brings the world's finest art to America's finest city.

    The Associate Director of Human Resources and Compliance will be responsible for the administration of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs in in the following functional areas: employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment.  The position creates and leads human resources and compliance practices that provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture based on the mission of the Museum. The Associate Director will partner with the executive management to identify talent gaps and to address the needs of departments.

    Essential Functions:

    • ·         Manage human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and terminating staff
    • ·         Counsel and advise staff on work related issues including providing guidance and direction to management team and employees on human resources related topics.
    • ·         Create and implement a competitive compensation package for employees
    • ·         Schedule and manage the annual performance evaluation process and maintain those records
    • ·         Communicate and ensure compliance and constancy with office practices and compliance with all employment related laws
    • ·         Manage Workers Compensation process
    • ·         Work with key stakeholders to build a collaborative work environment
    • ·         Research and recommend relevant insurance products
    • ·         Other duties as assigned 

    Skills & Requirements:

    • ·         SPHR/PHR/CA required; Bachelor’s degree with major course work in human resources or related field; Minimum five years of Human Resources experience, including two years of management, preferably in a nonprofit institution
    • ·         Candidate must have strong knowledge of all Federal and State (California) employment Laws, including Wage and Hour, Compensation, performance management, recruiting, benefits including 403(b) oversight and administration, leaves, employee engagement and excellent judgement.
    • ·         Candidate must have ability to resolve problems in a collaborative fashion, maintain confidentiality and sensitivity working with a diverse work force.
