    The Human Resources Business Partner supports the strategies and processes that attract, motivate, develop and retain a diverse workforce serving as a partner to management and employees on human resources related issues. The HR Business Partner provides support to faculty, managers and employees with day-to-day HR questions and recommends solutions for a variety of personnel needs including hiring, onboarding, personnel changes, clarifying policy and processes, and employee separation. 

    The HR Business Partner collaborates with others to develop, communicate, and implement initiatives and programs, including those related to compensation, benefits, talent acquisition and management, legal, and other applicable programs. The position provides guidance, training and functional and technical support as of the day-to-day delivery of HR programs and processes.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides support to an assigned group of employees with day-to-day HR questions and recommends solutions for a variety of personnel needs including hiring, onboarding, personnel changes, clarifying policy and processes, and employee separation
    • Interprets HR programs, policies and procedures for a variety of employment scenarios
    • Completes and processes employment changes including preparation of records and administration of personnel changes, such as promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations
    • Generates reports using ERP, ATS and other systems and provides analysis of key employment metrics for the department
    • Works with department or hiring managers to review compensation matters, including determining appropriate salary levels, titles and qualifications; drafts job descriptions and job postings
    • Provides guidance on employee relations issues ensuring compliance with statutes, guidelines, and Institute policies and processes including conducting investigations
    • Conducts exit interviews and analyzes feedback to identify trends.
    • Provides coaching and advice to managers both ongoing and in concert with annual formal performance management processes
    • Develops, modifies and conducts training for managers, new hires and employees on a variety of human resources topics.
    • Performs full-cycle recruitment for scientific and non-scientific positions including review, set up and tracking of requisitions, sourcing and screening candidates, extending offers and supporting new employee on-boarding activities. Collaborates to ensure appropriate completion of necessary visa paperwork for foreign nationals
    • Participates in departmental projects and initiatives. May initiate, drive or own projects, or specific components of a project or annual process. Collaborates with HR team members to communicate and implement change initiatives
    • Conducts research, identifies best practice methods and suggests appropriate changes in support of departmental initiatives, processes and projects
    • Stays abreast of current trends, new technologies, and legal/regulatory guidelines in areas of support and recommends updates and supports changes as required.

    Our ideal candidate will have had previous experience working independently with hiring managers and employees and familiarity with applicable state and federal statutes and regulations, including but not limited to wage and hour, leave, EEO and ADA. We seek an individual with a high degree of professionalism, who exercises diplomacy.  In addition, a candidate with a strong customer-service orientation as well as professional written and verbal communication skills is desired. 

    The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical. Our preferred individual will have demonstrated experience working through complex employee relations situations. 

    In this fast-paced environment, the ability to manage a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is key. A strong orientation to team environment and working collaboratively with others is also necessary. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creative problem solving and an orientation to best practice process improvement.  Previous experience working through change and implementing new processes and procedures is also preferred.  Successful candidates will also have a functional knowledge of organizational operations, as well as a full understanding of HR industry practices. 

    We seek candidates with a strong attention to detail and analytical skills as well as those with strong technical orientation to learning computer systems and applications. Professional-level Microsoft Office and previous experience with automated applicant tracking systems (ATS) is necessary.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, Human Resources management or a related field and a minimum of five years’ Human Resources experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
    • Previous experience with employee relations, full-cycle recruiting and compensation
    • PHR or SPHR certification is preferred, as is previous experience in a scientific research environment
